Charleston's second annual "Eat Local Month" kicks off in April

April 2013 is the 2nd Annual Eat Local Month, a celebration of the bounty of local food available in the Lowcountry.

Organized by local non-profit Lowcountry Local First, Eat Local Month will provide fun and educational opportunities for those in the Charleston community and beyond, to actively engage in eating what is ripe and in season. There are multiple events planned throughout the month of April to celebrate eating local and support family farms.

Scam artists posing as SCE&G employees

South Carolina Electric & Gas is urging business and residential customers to be aware of scam artists posing as SCE&G employees.

A number of customers have reported instances of individuals portraying themselves as SCE&G employees over the phone. In several instances, the individuals are requesting that customers purchase a payment card from a local convenience or drug store and then call back with the card’s information for immediate bill payment.

Important tips to keep in mind:

Charleston Battery defeats Carolina RailHawks in pre-season scrimmage

The Charleston Battery defeated the Carolina RailHawks 2-1 in a pre-season scrimmage played Tuesday afternoon at the WakeMed Soccer Park, in Cary, North Carolina.

The Battery jumped out to a two goal lead before half time thanks to goals from Quinton Griffith and Micheal Azira.  After conceding midway though the second half the Battery held firm to take the win. 

Charleston opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a superbly taken goal by midfielder Quinton Griffith.  Jose Cuevas and Jarad van Schaik combined on the right side and slipped a pass through to Griffith who drilled a shot past the RailHawks goalkeeper from an acute angle. 

The Battery doubled its lead on the 30 minute mark after Micheal Azira ran onto an errant clearance. …
