Biz Markie and sushi: Thursday's after party round-up
Thursday evening’s after party to-do list held a nice mix of celebrity, showmanship and par-for-the-course cocktail revelry.
First up was general mayhem with DJ accompaniment at O-Ku, followed by Night Vizzion and The Music Farm’s "Not Just another 80's Party", featuring The Diabolical DJ Biz Markie.
Yep! It was that Biz Markie.
Sensing the need for a few Asian inspired cocktails before even thinking about busting 1980’s hip hop moves, we popped into O-ku. The sushi bar and restaurant was packed, and by just 10:30, the crowd was in rare form. It seemed as if literally everyone from the shows was in attendance, dressed in their finest late night attire. Night Two: CFW's After Parties Continue
Wednesday evening delivered two of the week’s most hyped after parties: The Becket Agency’s “Bedhead” and Project Runway designer Michael Knight’s “Secret Party”, a soiree and debut of Knight’s Fall/Winter 2011 pieces at Social.
Billed as a breakfast-in-bed themed event, “Bedhead” was the most highly attended party thus far in the week. One large bed occupied the wall adjacent to the main dance floor, on which revelers took turns lolling about and having photos taken. Event organizers upped the ante by flying in Willem Wolfe to spin the affair, The Standard …
Wednesday Night at the Shows: CFW Night Two
Wednesday’s shows kicked off with the requisite retail presentations, last night from Tommy Bahama and House of Sage.
Tommy Bahama sent models careening down the catwalk with mega-watt smiles and a casual walk, draped in linen, swim pieces and bits of floral, all accessorized with raffia and straw derived accessories.
As always, this retailer presented what it does best- consistent, traditional and predictable resort wear that for a certain crowd, is very wearable.
Next up was House of Sage, a retailer that traditionally presents a strong assortment of merchandise. While there were a few standout looks- army green riding pants with shocks of coral, cut-out Kelly …
Bubbles and Hats Kick Off CFW Celebrations with a Bang
On the tail of an exciting first night of shows, attendees poured out of Charleston Fashion Week tents Tuesday night to partake in some well deserved after hours debauchery.
It’s worth noting that this season’s soiree list, for the first time, showcases events planned by local venues and agencies outside of Charleston Magazine. Participants came up with some seriously creative ideas to win the bid for one of two nightly “official” Fashion Week after parties. The resulting line …
Friday Night at The Shows: A Gal's Perspective
[Editor's note: In addition to regular coverage of each Charleston Fashion Week night, we give you a gal and guy take on each set of runway shows. Karen's is below; and here's Brian's.]
Charleston, I’m going to put it out there. I’m tired.
Going into the fifth day of show and after party reporting has left this gal with little sleep and a less than sunny disposition, which is why I thought long and hard about my critiques for last night’s shows.
All cranky pants aside, I’ve come to the decision that many of the retail presentations were flat. And not just last night. In year’s past I recall stores having fun with presentations, …
