South Carolina struggles to fund Civil War re-enactment

The 150th anniversary of the Civil War is almost here. South Carolina wants to commemorate the event by re-enacting the bombardment of Fort Sumter. The problem, though, is funding. Citing a difficult economy, South Carolina is scrambling to secure funds for the re-enactment. State historians want also to mark the 150th anniversary of the Ordinance of Succession, which is next year, and relate the experience of the freed slaves on the sea islands.

Seems it's easier to fund a war than commemorate one. Stay tuned for details as they emerge.

Thanks to The State for tipping us off. They've deactivated the story, for some unknown reason.

Update January 8: The Post and Courier has a full write-up.
