Uping ante for 787 factory in North Charleston, Boeing files preliminary application

The Charleston Regional Business Journal is reporting that Boeing is getting ready to file preliminary paperwork to build a 787 assembly plant in North Charleston.

The move is procedural and the company's possible massive expansion into the Lowcountry is far from a done deal. However, the psychological affect is very real and will surely be felt by staunch union opposition in Washington state to the company's proposed expansion.

Get the story at the paper.

A key vote on whether or not some of the North Charleston workers will remain unionized will come in early September.

A defeat of the union would be very encouraging for Boeing to consider expanding operations at their new Charleston home.
