Hotel proposed for downtown Beaufort's Port Republic Street
There have been many proposals for the long vacant old Piggly Wiggly on Port Republic Street, the latest calls for an 80-room hotel, but it's not clear if or how much of the existing building would remain.

Boat hotel backers turn to Port Royal

The Post and Courier reports that plans for a new 41-room, 27,000-square-foot hotel called The Spectator are in the works for downtown Charleston.
