Steampunk Tea Party at the Library
The power of steam to inspire an era of adventure
Come to the Georgetown County Library System Steampunk Tea Party event at the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library in Pawleys Island! Join us to celebrate a history that never was, an adventurous time when the world was powered by steam and a spirit of adventure. Friends and families are invited to come try a variety of teas, play games set in the Steampunk Genre, compete in a tea biscuit dunk-off, and enjoy homemade crumpets & scones.
Participants are encouraged, but not required, to attend in steampunk attire, which usually means gears, buckles, fancy hats, and goggles.
“Steampunk is a rich cultural phenomena that is well represented in every media. You can find innovative steampunk stories in books, movies, music, podcasts, anime, and comics.” said Donald Dennis, Teen and Technology Librarian “If you are interested in steampunk, we can help you find a way to explore the genre.”
If you aren’t familiar with steampunk, by the end of the tea party you will be. Craft projects from the Library’s Month of Steam will be on display, including goggles, and balloon ornaments crafted from burnt-out lightbulbs. If you’d like to make your own goggles or balloons we will teach you how!
“Steampunk reimagines past eras, Victorian and American West,” said Stephanie Frey, Teen Technology Assistant. “and when you play with history you learn about the original.”
“Every month we have a theme and activities for the Waccamaw Neck Branch Library Teen Room.” offers Donald “We hope to bring young adults into the library by offering services and activities they find interesting.”
