First Report: James "Jimmy" Moore, a former Grand Strand resident, was seriously injured while driving to work at WSPA-TV in Spartanburg.
Jimmy was at one time the Chief Photgrapher for WBTW and his local popularity is evident as news of his accident has quickly traveled through Myrtle Beach locals' online social networks. That's what makes this a Myrtle Beach story.
According to Highway Patrol reports, Moore was traveling north on I-85 around 2 p.m. in a WSPA-TV owned Ford Explorer following behind a 1996 Chevrolet pick-up truck. The pick-up lost its spare tire from underneath the bed of the truck. Moore swerved to miss the tire in the roadway and his SUV struck the concrete dividing wall on the interstate causing the vehicle to roll. GoUpstate.com has a few more details.
As a result, Jimmy has suffered a significant spinal cord injury resulting in nerve damage, and a loss of feeling throughout his body. His tests have come back favorable to show that he doesn't have any sort of head trauma, but there is a large gash on his head that will need a surgery to fix it.
