Widely called one of the ugliest lighthouses, Sullivan's Island's lighthouse is more interesting and notable than you might have guessed.

The Charleston Light, that's its proper name, was the last manned lighthouse to be constructed by the U.S. Coast Guard, and is, surprise, still in use today. Though it became automated in the 1970s.
The lighthouse also used to sport one of the most powerful lights in the Western Hemisphere.
