A Charleston County Sheriff’s Office detention officer has been charged with third-degree assault and battery and misconduct in office.
The charges stem from an incident which took place on December 22, 2010 when officer James Edward Scott, "without any immediate need of self defense, defense of others, or a need to gain control of the inmate," allegedly assaulted and injured an inmate.
