Lowcountry Local First is officially launching the 10% Shift Campaign, a grass roots effort designed to promote locally owned, independent businesses in the current economic recession.
Jamee Haley, Executive Director of the Lowcountry Local First had this to say:
Basically, we are asking individuals, businesses, non-profits and governmental agencies to shift 10% of their purchases to local Independents.
“This campaign will boost the local economy without a single dollar of taxpayer money. It would boost all business sectors, including banking, real estate, retail, service, agriculture, non-profit, government, and hospitality. This is a win-win for the entire Lowcountry.
If you're curious about the merits of the campaign, it's a topic that Dan Conover over at Xark! examined in detail earlier this year.
The 10% Shift campaign kicks off on June 30, with a 10 a.m. news conference at Marion Square to outline details of how the public can participate. On July 10, the 10 Percent Party will be held at the Navy Yard’s 10 Storehouse Row.
