Update March 23: After a couple of years of work, the first methane capture-burn power facility is online in the Lowcounty.
At the tail end is energy for 1,500 homes and some $750,000 a year for Berkeley County.
The Post and Courier has a nice update (and photo of the generator); get them here.
First reporting August 17, 2009: Work is progressing on a new methane extraction system at the Berkeley County landfill, and the county is working on a pair of contracts that could bring in a cool $1 million a year.
In all the system is expected to draw the equivalent of some 3 million gallons of gas a year.
