Update July 14: So Big Gun Burger Shop has been open for a little while now, and the reviews are starting to pour in.
The review raved about the burger shop, including:
- The charming, water-hole atmosphere
- Seven amazingly delicious beef burger options
- A wide variety of unique toppings
- Five rockin' non-beef burgers including duck (yum!), veggie, and turkey
- Buns that, after quite a bit of experimentation, are to-die-for
- Fresh, crispy fries to complete any meal

Update June 11: Although it was with sadness that I heard Alluette's was closed on Calhoun, the Big Gun Burger Shop & Bar looks to be a pretty sold — if rather different — trade.
The folks from the Charleston City Paper recently made it out for a group lunch and have a casual overview of what's hot and what's not (though it's more of the former) along with a healthy side of photos — take a read here.
And be sure to check out the paper's first report for more background.
Keep up with the burger shop on Twitter at @bigGunBurger.
— Update by Ken Hawkins.
First reporting April 11: The Big Gun Burger Shop & Bar will be opening in the old Alluette's Jazz Cafe location at 137 Calhoun Street sometime in May.
Austin Kirkland says that the burger shop will focus on artisan burgers in the tiny space on Calhoun Street. And we're not kidding--it's pretty tiny. The kitchen is 15 feet by 8 feet, which is just one of the space challenges the burger shop will face.
But the food is sure to speak for itself. Kirkland reports that the meat will be ground in-house and buns will be baked fresh. Fries? Made from scratch.
My mouth is watering already.
