On January 9, 1861, the first shots before the Civil War were fired not on Fort Sumter but from a team of cadets from The Citadel stationed at a Morris Island battery. Their mission was to turn away the ship the Star of the West that was aiming to resupply Fort Sumter.
This weekend that moment was remembered 150 years on and recreated by a team of today's Citadel cadets.
The Charleston City Paper was there and has put together a quite nice video; watch it here.
