Hop on over to the CharlestonArts website, where there's some more blurb about the Farmers Market, and a little sneak-thumbnail-preview of what their new artwork/poster for this year looks like.
TheDigitel will be at the market this Saturday recording our latest podcast --the observant amongst you will have noticed that there was no regular 'cast on Wednesday of this week, as we decided to wait until the Saturday so that we could do it at the market.
With summer just around the corner, and a lot of fun events coming up, it's most likely that we'll schedule our podcasts around events as they occur, rather than do the podcast at a fixed date & time every week. Either way - come and say 'hello' to us if you're at the market this Saturday!
It's that time of year; the farmers markets are returning, and this Saturday, April 11th, the region's poster child reopens at 8 a.m.
Running every Saturday through December 19 until 2 p.m., the market offers local produce and processed foods, crafts, music, and -- everyone's favorite -- crepes.
Want to know what produce you'll see? Here's a "What's in season" chart from the state.
Around for 20 years, the farmers market has its fair share of history. And that history is something that the city's Office of Cultural Affairs director recently wrote about over at Charleston Currents.
And for the first day of the 2009 market, special events are planned, from an e-mailed press release:
At 10:30 a.m., April 11, Mayor Pro Tem Robert Mitchell, City Councilmember Yvonne Evans, longtime member of the CFM advisory committee and Ellen Dressler Moryl, Director City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs, will unveil the 2009 poster image, Watermelon Sky by Lisa Shimko. After the poster unveiling, the South Carolina Broadcasters, a local bluegrass band, will offer entertainment for the entire family until 1:30 p.m.
But the Charleston farmers market is by no means the only game in town. Here's a map of where and when the rest of the area's take place.
