North Charleston now has its very own half-marathon: the Riverfront Race Festival. But it's not just about the running, there's also a bike ride and the organizers are aiming to set a Guinness World Record for "enjoying the most shrimp and grits at the finish line."
The race is set for Saturday, January 16, 2010, and will offer a half-marathon, 10K, 5K, run walk, and bike ride (on the following day). The event aims to benefit the R. Keith and Deborah C. Summey Youth Endowment for the Arts and event organizers hope it will become a full marathon in 2011.
The course is set over flat terrain (no surprise there) and winds through downtown North Charleston and along the riverfront -- here's a PDF map of the course.
If you register before August 15th the price is $50, and from there it gradually rises to $80 on race day. The other runs and bike rides run $10-$25.
