Update May 17: Here's the post-event info.
Something strange will happen on Sunday, May 16, in Charleston: You'll be able to walk down King Street without narrowly squeezing past slow moving tourists.
Well, actually, you'll be able to walk down King Street without having to dodge slow tourists and cars at the same time.
An event dubbed "Do the Charleston" is taking over the street between Calhoun and Clifford St (map below) and giving it back to pedestrians. The idea is to give everyone an opportunity to make more leisurely use of the iconic shopping strip.
Planned for the day are "outdoor dining, entertainment, music, street food vendors and more..."
We'll be sure to update you as the event solidifies.
Update May 14: The big day is nearly here, and they've just unveiled a fund little scavenger hunt. Grab a copy of the PDF, print it, and get a free t-shirt and loads of street cred if you're one of the first 25 to turn in a completed form with the addresses of the King Street architectural icons.
