It's forecasted to be the first legitimately chilly weekend in Charleston, but don't let the weather keep you inside. There are plenty of great events taking place this weekend and you've come to the right place if you're looking for the best of the best.
I can think of few better ways to warm that soul than by drinking some quality craft brews. Luckily, on Saturday, Mellow Mushroom Mount Pleasant is hosting the Mellow Mushroom Beer Fest. Load up on delicious pizza, over 40 different craft brews, and even cigars if you're feeling super suave. If beer isn't your thing, hit up CupcakeCamp at Aloft Hotel. The free event is designed to bring together cupcake lovers, bakers and eaters. Come hungry.
The Charleston Fine Art Annual kicked off earlier this week, but we wanted to highlight a very special exhibition being held as part of it at Robert Lange Studios. The 'Women Painting Women' is bringing together forty female painters from around and will feature a variety of paintings depicting the female form, displaying a shift in notoriety towards contemporary women painters.
For the book worms out there, the Capital BookFest rolls into town on Saturday. The day-long festival features readings from noted authors and poets as well as newly and self published authors. Oh yeah, and it's free!
The South Carolina Stingrays celebrate their home opening weekend on Friday, November 5th, Saturday, November 6th and Sunday, November 7th in three consecutive games against the Florida Everblades at the North Charleston Coliseum. If you want to be a part of the action, sign-up before it's too late for the the 12th Annual James Island Connector 10K Run and 5K Walk on Saturday.
As for the more offbeat events of the weekend, Pet Helpers is throwing a premiere pet-lovers' gala, The Sixth Annual Furball Royale and the Charleston Gentlemen of Leisure Team are joining forces with SweetWater Brewery and Madra Rua Irish Pub for the 'Save The Stiffys' fundraising event.
Finally, Firefly Distillery is spreading Southern spirit on Sunday with a bluegrass and blues festival that is benefitting the Windwood Farm Home for Children.
