Horry-Georgetown Technical College hosted a day long competition of engineering skills that encapsulated two years of hard work for local area students in the Engineering Technology and Construction Management program.
Students competed in a variety of test from structural analyst of bridge design, to force and pressure on structural elements, to AutoCAD renderings and even an egg drop for local area high schools. Students have been preparing all semester long to tackle today's competition and their craftsmanship, hard work and determination shows.
This is the fourth year that professor Suliban Deaza, has hosted HGTC's Engineering Day.
Each and every year we see Engineering Day grow. Inviting local area high school students gives them the opportunity for them to see a hands on learning environment as well as showcase a career field that is both rewarding and fun. It also give us a chance to invite out regional engineering firms to see all the great things that our students are doing at HGTC.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College and its Engineering Technology and Construction Management programs are growing. At the event, they showcased a rendering of the brand new engineering building. With looks to future programs, such as the one hosted today, HGTC plans to help usher in a new era for the construction and engineering trades.
High school students on hand were amazed with the creative learning environments, the technology and the sheer competition of it all. Bucky Sellers of The Academy for the Arts, Science & Technology, stressed the importance of hands on learning.
The skills showcased today are ones that many students need to possess. By showing real world scenarios with craftsmanship and ingenuity, really makes a difference in young minds. Our students can walk away from today with a true understanding of what the engineering world is like.
Horry-Georgetown Technical College and its Engineering Technology and Construction Management programs truly is "building" the Grand Strand area one student at a time.
