If you're a cyclist, runner, or just someone who likes things to be tidy, then you've ever been frustrated by the big or small debris littering the sides of roads in Beaufort County.
But know that you're not alone in that frustration -- and that The Island Packet has a nice profile of when these spots get cleaned, and where the responsibility often falls.
That said, it doesn't sound like anyone is taking it upon themselves to make sure the edge of the road is cleaned as often as the main thoroughfare.
Update February 11: The Island Packet has followed up in an editorial to drive home the need of maintaining these oft-overlooked portions of transportation, health, and recreation in our outdoors centric community — and the paper reminds that as local cities discuss making themselves more attractive to outsiders, they should be keeping their minds on making areas bike and running accessible in addition to car and walker friendly; read the editorial here.
