Keep 'em clean, keep 'em navigable.
From contaminating water to simply blocking river way access, we've talked before about the problem's that abandoned boats cause around Beaufort.
But the problem isn't just boats, other large abandoned objects cause similar problems and the August meeting of Greendrinks Beaufort is aiming to help out.
At this month's installment of the eco-minded folks Amber Von Harten, fisheries specialist with the SC Sea Grant Consortium, will discuss the Marine Debris Observation Training program being offered coast-wide in South Carolina.
The program tells local citizens about large marine debris issues and how to use Web-based reporting systems to crowd-source info on large marine debris items in our waterways (abandoned/sunken boats, dock pilings, appliances, etc.) that will help OCRM prioritize and seek funding for removal efforts.
And if you're on the fence, know that the meeting will be at Johnson Creek Tavern (which not only has tasty beverages but a great view of the marsh) at 2141 Sea Island Parkway on Tuesday, August 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Give them an RSVP on Facebook.
