Skate park for downtown Charleston heads to drawing board
For years skateboarding groups have sought a proper place for skateboarding in downtown Charleston. Many thought the day had finally come back in 2011 when the Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission said it was ready to lay out $2 million for such a park.
That park has been largely stalled for the past 13 months while the parks commission sought approval before spending design dollars, and federal and state oversight bodies wanted to see the plans before approving.
However, the parks commission is biting the bullet and has given Florida-based Team Pain the go-ahead to design the 40,000-square-foot skate park that would be partly under the on-ramp to the Cooper River Bridge.
The Charleston City Paper offers an up on the go-ahead and what the designers have in mind; take a read here.
