Update January 8 p.m.: Charleston Waterkeeper has shared some nice photos and video from the scene.
Update January 8, more details, cleanup: The consensus seems to be that cold water temperatures were responsible.
Meanwhile crews have hurried to cleanup the mess before the stench arrives.
It's an effort The Post and Courier has a nice report on and photo of.
Meanwhile NBC News 2 has a video of all the dead fish.
Oh, and wanted to remind about reports from July 2010 when thousands of dead clams washed up on Folly.
First reporting January 6: In an as-of-yet unexplained phenomena much like the one that took place in Arkansas earlier this week, thousands of dead fish have washed up on the shore of Folly Beach.
Early reports are saying the fish likely died as a result of the cold water, but to be sure, SCDNR crews are out on Folly Beach collecting samples.
According to the brief in The Post and Courier, "From the Folly Beach pier, there is a line of dead fish as far as one can see in both directions."
All of the fish that have washed up appear to be Menhaden.
We'll keep you updated on this major fish kill as more information becomes available.

It is a tragic commentary on the state of investigative journalism that there are no
earnest investigations on the causes of such a worldwide phenomenon of birds
and other animals dying in such big numbers.
On top of which, people are willing to believe that fireworks are sufficient as the
cause ( think July 4 ), or that they fly into buildings when these incidents occur where there are no buildings.

Things are going to be Cut off because of this Great Earthquake, Water, Power, Roads and super freeways. Railways. Not food is going to get to stores, people are not going to get Gas, much get Moneys, Electronics will not work. If my family hurts it not because they were not worn ed. To make your own bread. The Earthquake has to be so bad to push up the millions and billions of Graves, you may not have a house foundation. Then the bugs, are going to come from every where.

Most people just believe the story they got told by the media. I think that less than 1% really think about what they read, try to combine the 'facts' or even check if the states 'facts' can be true. Sometimes simple physics/math (hopefully known by every 15+yr old person) can prove that a story must be wrong/fake but why do the math if they told me why it happend?
I don't understand why ppl still believe the fireworks or powerline story. But I also don't believe that it'a a virus as those events are distributed around the world but limited to small spots.
If media tell me it's one of the following I can believe it:
- An electromagnetic phenomenon caused by a human device (unknown weapon, HAARP...) or the sun (there is some activity at the moment: search NOAA space weather alerts)
- A strange weather phenomenon resulting in local cold spots around the world
- Maybe the Corexit that went into the atmosphere (but than explain why its effect is limited to some small spots)

In mines they keep canaries to tell them if methan gas is building up. What happens? The bird dies. If Birds and fish are dying in mass numbers the world had better find out why. These are sensitive animals but it could be an indication that there is a potential hazard for humans and other animals.
I can not believe that the only reason these stories are being told is because it started with a slow news day!! Fear, worry or other emotional feelings may be promoting the news but if we just brush it aside we could be leading ourselfs into situations that we could possibly avoid. If it has been happening for years and we have ignored it, shame on the human race for not caring more about Gods creatures.
Ignorance is bliss but can also be stupidity.

HARP did it all, from the earthquake in Indiana (on the New Madrid fault), to putting up a magnetic barrier or shield the birds ran into, and the fish someone just went ahead and picked out a kind of fish they wanted to kill off and did just that or they could have tried out a new fish food and the ones that died didn't like it.....LOL HARP can do a lot more than people are aware of.
