Rita's Roots to leave the Lowcountry, sets sights on Richmond

Sad news: Rita Bachmann, founder of the Lowcountry's first Community Supported Agriculture program, Rita's Roots, will soon be bidding us an unfortunate farewell.

Rita is taking her program up to Richmond, Virginia in response to being unable to come to a monetary agreement over her usage of the land out at Wadmalaw Island's Thackeray Farms.

Bachmann had this to say about her time here in the Lowcountry:

"It's been an amazing experience growing organic vegetables in an area deemed to be impossible for organics...I am so proud to have served this community for the last few years. It's not about the money, but about the act of making a difference in the way we eat and view food and about being a steward to the Earth."
