Celebrate peace in the park
This Sunday, September 21, Charleston peace lovers will gather to celebrate Peace One Day’s 8th anniversary.
Along with hundreds of other cities worldwide, the city of Charleston will celebrate peace at Brittlebank Park on Lockwood Boulevard.
The peaceful festivities will commence at 1:00 p.m. and will conclude when the band, Plain Jane, finishes jammin’ out at 6:30.
Jeremy Gilley, a British journalist, founded this global holiday in an attempt to remind the world one day per year that all people, all nations can coexist peacefully. Determined to spread peace, Gilley received the unanimous decision that every member state of the United Nations will celebrate “a day of cease fire, a day of non-violence” annually on September 21.
The objective of the holiday is to spread peace in any way you can. If that means giving someone a hug, then that’s your contribution. Bring peace to the forefront just for one day.
