Kulture Klash 5 is just around the corner
First reporting:
Charleston's chaotic arts and kulture mixer is back for a 5th time on November 6 and 7 -- that's a Friday and Saturday.
Read more stories on this subject in our Kulture Klash topic page. The first night of Kulture Klash is a free artist mingle, and the second night is slated to be a lot more chaotic with a bike theme.
Here's what one of the organizers told us in an e-mail:
Friday Nov 6th from 8-11pm we are hosting an Artist Reception. This will be free to art lovers 21+only who want to view art and mingle with artists. We will have munchies, a chill DJ and a cash bar. (this is so the art doesn't get lost in a sea of music, dancing and general craziness on Saturday). We hear there might be a bike parade this evening from the art walk downtown to the KK5 event space.
Saturday Nov 7th from 8pm-2am. BIKE THEME. We will have bike polo matches, bike dancing, bike poetry, bike art and slow bike races. We are collaborating with Charleston Moves, Holy City Bike Co-op, Charleston Cycle Chic and other bicycle groups around town. Our goal is to promote bike safety, encourage community and more understanding of how to share the road. And of course, there will be DJs, musicians, graffiti, dancing, lots of weirdness, lots of people and lots of chaos.
If you're game, go ahead and buy your ticket before October 15th as you'll save 50%. Tickets are $10 now thru October 15th, then $15 thru November 5, then $20 at the door. Buy them at Artist & Craftsman, Scoop Studio, 52.5 Records, and D'allesandro's.
Why the price hike? Organizer Ambergre Sloan said, "We have to raise the price a little due to increasing costs as we get bigger and bigger, but we wanted to give people a chance to still get $10 if they can snag them early." But they're also willing to give out free tickets to those that are willing to help set up. E-mail info@kultureklashartsfestival.com.
Update November 3:
We've got more news on Kulture Klash than you can shake a stick at.
Go take a look at the detailed list of what's going on at Kulture Klash 5 this year.

Kulture Klash always SOUNDS amazing, but it never is. It's always a clusterfuck, it's essentially the same artwork that you could see at any other art show, it's never "new" or "innovative," parking can be a nightmare. I appreciate the lengths that Charleston art/event promoters go to, but I've been to Kulture Klash since its inception and it's always the same boring event.

TRUE DAT.

These guys are crazy... went to the spring event and had a blast... sure, a few more beer trucks would be nice, but on the whole it's a great event.

Gay Bomb was amazing at the last one. And the UV dance party was fun, obviously some sound system issues that could have made it better but we all know what happened there.
I'm not art aficionado, but I dug some of what I saw.
I'll go to all of them from now on for the chance to see Gay Bomb again, really. Not many events in Charleston that are as fun as it is as a whole, especially given the $10 price tag. This isn't NYC, people.

Gay Bomb and Stella By Starlight should play again for sure. That's what made the last one so much fun.

We love KK. 10 bucks is ridiculously cheap for an event like this. I don't see why anyone would NOT go. The people watching alone is worth the price of a ticket.
08 Oct 2009 9:11 am.
I've contacted Gay Bomb to see if he's game for KK5, if he's OK with me spilling the beans I'll post his response here once I get it.

@Alexis: ROFL. They should put that on the ticket: Even if you hate the art, you'll get your money's worth in people watching.

So Gay Bomb says he hasn't been contacted by KK5, so he doubts he'll play this one. My e-mail campaign to bring him back started last night, please feel free to join me:
